The Magnificent Kimberley's

Leaving Broome we travelled to Derby and stayed for 3 nights...Very small town, but the main attraction was our first visit to the Windjana Gorge off the Gibb River Road ..... with the trip booked we checked out the township and this is where  Baggy met a couple of  locals  and arranged to have a Boab Nut carved....First the nut was still on the tree, so into the church yard goes Rodney and his lady Kathy and Baggy....After a meeting with the priest, Rodney needed  to climb this tree, so Baggy had to get his step ladder for the climb but  Rodney  ended up using Baggys shoulder to get up further,  he climbed right out on the big branches and dropped the nuts down to Kathy,     all this going on,  i was  taking photos, and was quite amused....... the story ends that we have some beautiful carved Boab Nuts  signed by Rodney and Kathy, what a talent these local people have........Rodney has 2 brothers in Wyndham and  Rodney   asked Mick to look them up,  you will all smile at the trouble Baggy goes to to say hello to Clinton and J.J.................................... (Wyndham was a town that we were heading to)..............When we arrived in Wyndham ,Mick asked about the town  and was directed to  Clinton who told him where to find J.J.     ... This was the direction   "See that big tree over there, just  go down the road near the tree and you will find them"     sure enough, we found them  sitting in a very shaded area and Mick had quite a chat with them  and had them all laughing,  they all seemed very thirsty and they even called out to me to get out  of the car to join them,  We  declined on the drink offer though, so of coarse i had another camera opportunity ......... You will all know what i mean when you look at the photos....They were all very friendly ........     Travelling  with Baggy you are never sure what antics    he will get up to next................Next day we waited at the van park gate at 6am  for the  Windjana  Gorge trip but  the tour operaters had to cancel as the Gibb River closed due to rain....Have seen plenty of Gorges since then....

What can i say about the beauty of  The Kimberleys......Now i know the reason why  we have travelled  this barren  land to arrive in the jewel of  The Kimberleys.....Can't  explain the beauty  of this area and can't even put it in photos , to do so you would need a panoramic camera .......This is really nature at its best.....Been to many Gorges and had a few different ways of seeing this beauty,  We took a boat trip into Geikie Gorge out of Fitzory Crossing and saw lots of local  fresh water crocodiles, and of coarse the beauty of the landscape.................We have had a 4 wheel drive  bus trip into the Bungle-Bungles, that was a 12 hour trip  very, very , expensive but worth ever cent as it wasn't our vehicle getting busted up...Very rough road and lots of bouncing around but the surprise at the end was wonderful........Just loved those Bungle-Bungles........We have walked to Gorges up and over rocks and through creeks all to find this amazing beauty at the end.............El -Questro  Station was a must for  Baggy as he had done the research on the area, so i must say the El -Questro Gorge was worth the effort, followed by another walk to Emma Gorge and a swim as a reward   at the end.....

We have now travelled from Derby in the west Kimberley to Kununurra in the east Kimberley so the Ord river will be our next port of call after leaving Kununurra....We have been bush camping along this area and loving it...People are so friendly...We are still with 2 other couples and love there company and looking forward to meeting up with my cousin Lesley and her husband Kel  somewhere down the road ...Too early yet to say where ,as they won' t be leaving Nambour  for a couple  of weeks...... Till next time.........
Love to all ......The Baggy's
